Court orders man to pay over £1,700 after £20 taxi fare row and punch to cabbie's face

A 51-year-old man who punched a taxi driver after a row over a £20 fare has been ordered by the courts to pay £1,706 in fines, fees and compensation.

According to LeicestershireLive the cabbie was taking a young woman to the address of the attacker in the Leicester area.

The woman onboard didn’t have the money to pay for the taxi fare so phoned for help to pay the bill. A man exited the house, threw a £20 note at the taxi driver and a “verbal exchange” ensued.

The incident was captured on CCTV and it showed the taxi driver exiting the taxi, approaching the man, who then punched the cabbie in the face.

The Leicester man was ordered to pay a £1,246 fine, £250 compensation to the taxi driver, a £125 victim surcharge and £85 court costs.
