Cyclist undergoes ‘extensive surgery’ after being punched for colliding into child on zebra crossing

Police in Hackney are making a public appeal to any drivers with dashcam footage relating to an assault on a cyclist at a zebra crossing.

At around 11am on Saturday 13 May the male cyclist was involved in a collision with a female child on a zebra crossing in Lauriston Road, E9.

The child is not believed to have suffered any injuries as a result of the incident.

Immediately after the incident, the cyclist was approached by a man who punched him in the face before leaving the scene. The suspect is not believed to have been known to the child.

The cyclist was taken to hospital by a friend where he was diagnosed with a broken jaw and required to undergo extensive surgery.

Officers from Hackney CID are investigating and are appealing to any drivers who may have been in the area at the time and could have dashcam footage to come forward.
