Taxi and private hire drivers planning to serve passengers travelling to the 2026 Formula 1 British Grand Prix have been warned they will not be able to access the Silverstone Circuit or surrounding villages due to traffic restrictions introduced for the event.
Instead, passengers must be dropped off and collected from designated shuttle bus locations, according to a new public information leaflet issued ahead of the race weekend.
The guidance states: “Traffic restrictions and road closures in the villages around the circuit will be in place, so there are NO access or drop off points for fan taxis and licensed vehicles.” Fans will instead need to use the official Silverstone shuttle bus network, with seats requiring online pre-booking before boarding.
The closest designated taxi drop-off and pick-up point will be Towcester Racecourse, with an estimated 15-minute shuttle journey to the circuit.
Other approved interchange locations include Buckingham High Street Bus Stand, Brackley Bus Stand, Sixfields Stadium, Bicester Motion, Northampton railway station, Banbury railway station, Oxford Parkway railway station, Milton Keynes railway station and Coventry railway station. Estimated shuttle journey times range from 15 minutes to 80 minutes depending on location.
The shuttle network will operate across all four days of the event, from Thursday 2 July to Sunday 5 July 2026. First departures to the circuit begin at 10.30am on Thursday before switching to early morning services from Friday onwards, with the earliest departure at 5.30am on race day. Return services will operate into the evening, with the final buses leaving the circuit at 11pm from Thursday to Saturday and 10.30pm on Sunday.
The organisers also remind passengers that journey times are estimates and “can vary depending on time of travel”, advising visitors to allow plenty of time to reach the circuit, particularly on race day. Shuttle locations will be clearly signposted to assist passengers transferring from taxis and private hire vehicles.
