South Derbyshire Response Unit officers were able to intercept a taxi which was about to join a high speed road while driving on a flat tyre.

Officers said they received a call from a member of public who reported the cab, which had a paying fare on board, heading towards the A38 in Willington.

A response team were dispatched to stop the driver from continuing his journey, in an attempt to avoid an accident occurring.

Officers managed to track the taxi down and order the driver to pull over.

South Derbyshire Response Unit highlighted the incident on their official Twitter account, saying: "This afternoon in Willington. Member of the public reports a taxi driving on a flat tyre. Located with his paying fare before he got to the A38.

"God knows what could have happened if that blew out on a high speed road. Driver thought he could just pump it up.... Nooo, made to change."
