Derbyshire Police seize £15,000 of drugs in patrol car taxi stop
Updated: Aug 20
A routine patrol in Derby resulted in the seizure of more than £15,000 worth of drugs and the arrests of three men.
The incident occurred when local officers, focusing on anti-social behaviour, stopped a taxi as part of their patrol.
Inside the vehicle, officers discovered large quantities of cocaine, heroin, and cash. Following the arrest of the two men in the taxi, aged 44 and 24, police searched a nearby property. This led to further discoveries, including additional drugs, mobile phones, and nitrous oxide canisters. A 25-year-old man was also arrested at the scene.
The 24-year-old has been charged with two counts of possession with intent to supply crack cocaine and heroin. He is currently remanded in custody. The other two men, aged 44 and 25, were arrested on suspicion of intent to supply class A drugs but have been released on bail while investigations continue.
Sergeant Jamie Millard said: “This is a huge seizure, the level of damage that could be done by this quantity of drugs is enormous.
“We estimate the street value of these drugs to be around £15,000 to £20,000. By disrupting an operation like this, we can have a real impact on those supplying drugs in the area.
“These seizures and arrests will benefit the local community, as we continue to tackle and prevent drugs related anti-social behaviour in the city.”
