Devon and Cornwall Police have issued advice to motorists reminding them that they should not rely solely on sat-navs whilst driving and should take extra care when using them, after a vehicle was caught travelling the wrong way along a dual carriageway slip road.

The driver of the van said he had became confused while following the instructions on his sat-nav and ended up turning into the one-way slip road.

Fortunately, for the safety of the driver and his passengers, as well as other road users, the van drove straight towards an oncoming police vehicle which was able to intercept moments before it was about to join fast moving traffic, head-on.

Devon and Cornwall Roads Policing Team, used their official Twitter account @DC_RPT to post footage of the incident which was recorded on their police vehicle's dashcam.

A spokesperson for the force said: "Fortunately this driver didn't make it onto the main carriageway of the A30 at Sourton, Devon.

"Driver was following a sat nav and got confused. Please take extra care, read the road and the signs, don't rely on a sat nav."

Officers confirmed that the driver received a ticket for the offence.
