Don't risk using unmarked private hire cars or fake Facebook taxis says Hull City Council

People in Hull who are planning a big festive night out are being urged to plan ahead for their journey home.

Hull City Council’s licensing team have warned party-goers not to use unmarked minicabs or anyone advertising unlicensed taxi services on social media.

The message is to book a private hire vehicle or hail a Hackney carriage – and avoid any other private hire vehicles.

Keith Fenner, Licensing Manager, said: “When it comes to taxis, the message is simple: book it, hail it or avoid it.

“Either call a minicab or get a Hackney carriage at a taxi rank – don’t be tempted by unmarked cars or people touting for business on Facebook or other social media sites.

“Drivers of licensed taxis must meet rigorous standards, including a DBS check, a BTEC qualification, the proper insurance to carry passengers, and safely-maintained vehicles.

“There is no guarantee an unlicensed cab will honour a price quoted, take you to your destination or arrive as promised. The driver will not have had a background check, will not be insured and won’t necessarily even know where they are going.”

Hull City Council have advised to report unlicensed operators who are advertising on social media or by any other method by calling the council’s licensing team on 01482 300300.
