Edinburgh’s licensed taxi drivers are once again preparing to offer their annual Poppy Cabs service on Remembrance Sunday, providing free transport to veterans and ex-service personnel across the capital and surrounding areas.
Run by the Association of Hackney Carriage Drivers in Edinburgh, the initiative ensures that those who have served in the Armed Forces can attend Remembrance events with ease, dignity and at no personal cost.
This year’s service will take place on Sunday 9 November 2025 and covers the Edinburgh and Lothians area. Organisers are encouraging early awareness so that those wishing to make use of the service have ample time to plan and spread the word among peers and ex-colleagues.
The service has grown into an important part of the local Remembrance events, with licensed taxi drivers volunteering their time to give back to a community that has given so much.
Jonny Bates, who is helping coordinate this year’s effort, said the focus remains on reliability, safety and community values: “It’s our way of giving back to people who dedicated themselves to our country. We want to ensure every veteran and ex-service person has a way to attend the services, without barriers.”
Anyone wishing to make use of the service can contact the team directly by email at Jonny.bates@ahcdce.com.
The initiative continues to be widely supported within the taxi trade and has become a firm fixture in the Remembrance calendar in Scotland’s capital.
