Exeter City Council has launched a consultation on proposed taxi fare increases, with members of the public invited to give feedback until 13 July.
The move follows a request from both of the city’s Hackney Carriage Associations. Exeter last approved a fare rise in 2022.
The proposals suggest raising the starting fare for standard daytime journeys between 7am and 7pm from £2.70 to £3.80. This is a 41% increase. The running mile during the same hours would rise from £2.50 to £3, which marks a 20% increase.
For night-time and Sunday travel, the starting fare would rise from £3.20 to £4.60, a 44% increase. The running mile would increase from £3.10 to £3.80, a 22.5% rise.
Revised fares have also been put forward for Bank Holidays and the Christmas and New Year period.
The new tariffs represent maximum charges. Drivers are permitted to charge less but must not exceed the fare displayed on the meter.
Full details of the consultation and proposed changes can be accessed on the Exeter City Council website.
