Fake London minicab driver caught by undercover Met Police officers illegally plying for hire

Metropolitan Police Roads & Transport Cabs Unit officers have reported a man who was illegally acting as a minicab driver in London's Covent Garden.

The unnamed man was caught by plain clothes officers who he solicited and offered services as a minicab.

Using social media to spread the word of the offence, Roads & Transport MPS, said: "#CabsUnit were out and about in plain clothes when they were solicited by a male, who offered his services as a minicab. He and the vehicle were NOT licensed to take fares! Driver reported for a number of offences including no insurance."

Only licensed hackney carriage taxi drivers are legally allowed to pick up passengers who have not pre-booked a journey through an operator.

The offender will now likely have a court date to attend, where he will be expected to explain his illegal actions.
