Fareham Borough latest taxi licensing authority to kick off review over existing policies

Updated: May 18, 2022

Fareham Borough Council are the latest licensing authority to launch a consultation to assist with its review of existing taxi licensing policy and encourage residents to have their say.

The current Taxi Licensing Policy is due for review in 2022. The review considers matters covered by the ‘Department for Transport’s Statutory Taxi & Private Hire Vehicle Standards’ published in July 2020, as well as localised issues.

These issues include areas such as the implementation of drug testing, the use of in-car CCTV, the current tariff system and driver safety checks.

The consultation will close on Friday 24 June, and you can have your say here.

Executive Member for Health and Public Protection at Fareham Borough Council, Cllr Joanne Bull, said: “The Council undertakes licensing of hackney carriages and private hire vehicles, drivers and operators within the Borough. There are already a number of safety checks, rules and policies in place for the protection of both our drivers and their passengers, but this consultation looks at whether or not we should take this another step forward. I encourage residents to have their say and take part in this consultation.”
