Fareham Borough Council has opened a consultation on proposed updates to its Taxi and Private Hire Licensing Policy.
The refreshed document, previously known as the Taxi Handbook, outlines the standards expected of drivers, vehicles and operators working under council licences.
The authority says the review reflects recent national guidance and current best practice. The intention is to keep safety standards firm, improve accessibility and support environmental responsibility across the local fleet.
Drivers, operators and members of the public are being asked to give their views on the planned changes. The consultation runs until 5 January 2026. A summary of the revisions is available on the council’s website at www.fareham.gov.uk/consultations.
The council will consider all feedback before finalising the updated policy.
Executive Member for Health and Public Protection, Cllr Joanne Burton, said: “The Council’s licensing policy is essential for protecting passengers and supporting a safe and reliable taxi and private hire service. I encourage everyone affected by these changes to share their views during the consultation.”
Chairman of the Licensing and Regulatory Affairs Committee, Cllr Pamela Bryant, said: “These proposed updates reflect our commitment to ensuring that taxi and private hire services in Fareham remain safe, fair, and responsive to community needs. We value input from drivers, operators, and residents to help shape a policy that works for everyone.”
