A fast-food delivery driver has been caught driving with illegal tyres, defective lights and with a provisional licence which expired in 1983.

Officers from Derbyshire's Road Policing Unit pulled the silver Citroen over in IIkeston on Saturday night while it was on route to deliver a Chinese takeaway.

Roadside checks revealed that two tyres were so badly damaged that they had their cords exposed.

Further checks on the driver showed that he was driving on a provisional licence which had expired in 1983.

Using social media to highlight the offences, a spokesperson for the police said: "Acting on community intelligence, this vehicle delivering food for a Chinese takeaway stopped.

"Two tyres with cords exposed, defective lights and a driver whose provisional licence expired in 1983. We've just ordered a 'number 165' with sweet and sour sauce."
