Taxi and private hire drivers licensed with West Dunbartonshire Council are set for a second £1,500 support grant payment.

The taxi industry has been one of the hardest hit sectors since the global pandemic hit, with drivers struggling to stay financially on top of the trades' running costs.

Using their official Twitter account, a spokesperson for West Dunbartonshire Council, said: "The council recognises and appreciates the financial hardship of taxi drivers during this pandemic and is awarding an additional grant of £1,500 to all approved coronavirus taxi & private hire applicants.

"This is in addition to the £1,500 drivers already received."

A number of licensing authorities around the UK have stepped in to assist taxi and private hire drivers during these hard times, using money from discretionary funds made available to local councils from the Government.
