Glasgow Taxis handed out more than 15,000 free city guides during the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games as part of a new visitor initiative backed by local businesses.
The Wee Yellow Guide was launched earlier this summer to help tourists, delegates and other visitors navigate Glasgow. A street team distributed the maps to international guests during the Games after the first edition was released on the eve of the event.
The compact, double-sided guide contains a detailed map of Glasgow city centre and a second map covering the wider city. Its pocket-sized format was designed to provide visitors with a practical reference while travelling between venues, accommodation and other destinations.
Glasgow Taxis said its bespoke QR code on the guide achieved a conversion rate of 2%, providing the operator with a measurable response from the distribution campaign.
The first edition was supported by advertisers including Berlinkys, Cael & Grain, City Sightseeing Glasgow, Fraser Suites Glasgow, Glasgow Tigers Speedway, Go Radio and The Woodside Inn.
For Glasgow Taxis, the guide also provided a route for promoting its services directly to a large concentration of visitors during one of the city’s biggest international events. The campaign combined physical distribution with QR-based engagement at a time of increased transport demand.
Dougie McPherson, Glasgow Taxis Chairman, said: “The Wee Yellow Guide is a completely new initiative, and we are thrilled with the response of our first run. It was really well received throughout the Games, the free pocket-sized map giving visitors a positive and helpful start to their time in the city.
“We’re now getting ready for our next print run for the autumn and would love to hear from any other Glasgow businesses who’d like to get involved. The Wee Yellow Guide has become an overnight success and it’s here to stay!”
Glasgow Taxis is seeking additional businesses to support the second edition, which is expected to be printed later in 2026. The company has not yet confirmed how many copies will form part of the next run or where they will be distributed.
