Glasgow Taxis installs rooftop solar panels to boost green energy use

Glasgow Taxis Ltd has installed new rooftop solar panels at its operational headquarters on Boden Street as part of its ongoing drive to cut emissions and enhance energy efficiency.
The addition of solar technology at the east end site supports the company’s broader approach to environmental sustainability. It follows continued investment in electric vehicles, with over 150 now making up part of the operator’s fleet — the largest taxi fleet in the UK outside of London.
The solar panels are expected to lower the organisation’s carbon output while delivering longer-term financial benefits through improved energy use and tax efficiency.
Earlier this year, Glasgow Taxis introduced an option on its booking app that allows customers to choose an electric vehicle for their journey. The feature was developed in response to increased customer demand and aligns with government efforts to encourage greener transport solutions, especially for business users.
The latest measures reflect Glasgow Taxis’ continued efforts to modernise operations in line with environmental and digital expectations.
Dougie McPherson, Glasgow Taxis chairman, said: “This is something we at Glasgow Taxis have been discussing and planning for some time now and we are very happy to get to this stage. Primarily it made financial sense to invest now and benefit later.
“The nature of this capital investment increases tax efficiency and demonstrates that Glasgow Taxis Ltd have made another solid commitment to reducing our carbon footprint, something which will continue to be an important area of focus.
