“HE’S NOW PAID FOR THAT JOURNEY”: Man jailed after STEALING London black taxi in Aylesbury

Updated: Sep 15, 2022

A man has been sentenced to 14-weeks in prison after STEALING a London Black Cab in Aylesbury last week.

John Jason Fitzgerald pleaded guilty to theft of a motor vehicle, driving whilst disqualified and driving without insurance.

The 34-year-old pleaded guilty at a hearing at High Wycombe Magistrates’ court on Friday 9 September, and was handed a 14-week sentence. Fitzgerald also received a further 24-month driving disqualification.

Members of Thames Valley Police Aylesbury Vale Stronghold team with assistance from the Proactive Roads Policing Unit stopped and arrested the Fitzgerald on Thursday 8 September from a stolen black taxi vehicle on Orwell Drive, Aylesbury.

Within 7 minutes of the ‘Black London Cab’ being stolen, it was safely and successfully stopped, recovered by the police and the suspect was under arrest.

Investigating officer PC Levi Fensom of the Aylesbury Stronghold Team, said: “Usually the Stronghold Team is focussed on tackling drug dealing, however that doesn’t stop us from spotting other criminal activity and with the roads policing team we caught Fitzgerald after he had stolen the taxi cab.

“He’s now paid for that journey with a custodial sentence.

“Thankfully the taxi cab was not damaged and has been returned to it’s grateful owner.”
