Highland Council has urged taxi drivers to sign up now for £1,500 support grant

The Highland Council has urged taxi and private hire drivers to sign up now for a one-off £1,500 support grant.

The Scottish Government’s Taxi and Private Hire Driver Support Fund, delivered by Highland Council and other councils across Scotland, seeks to assist eligible licensed private hire and taxi drivers in Scotland with fixed costs.

Financial assistance is paid, as a one-off grant of £1,500, for each licensed taxi or private hire driver.

Cllr Andrew Jarvie, Chair of Highland Council’s Licensing Committee, said: “All licensed Taxi and Private Hire Drivers have been contacted directly to let them know about the grant scheme. I would urge anyone who considers themselves eligible, to apply for a grant.

“The majority of applications received have now been processed, but have had to contact a number of applicants to ensure they submit the right information. When all of the correct information is received and a grant is due after assessment, payment will be in Drivers bank accounts within days.”

He added: “The Scottish Government will soon set a closing date for this grant scheme and the Council does not want any eligible drivers to miss out. If you are a licensed taxi or private hire driver and have not yet applied, I would urge you to do this as soon as possible. Please visit the Highland Council website for further information and if you consider yourself eligible, do complete the application online.”
