Highland Council raise taxi tariffs by 20 percent despite push back from taxi representatives

Updated: Dec 4, 2022

Highland Council’s licensing committee has given the green light to increase taxi fares by 20 percent.

Despite sharp rises in fuel and living costs, the move has been seen as controversial. According to the Northern Times, members of the Inverness Taxis Alliance (ITA) called the rise unjustified and expressed their disappointment at a recent licensing committee meeting.

The tariff review follows the Council’s statutory duty to review its scales for the fares and other taxi related charges every 18 months.

At the Highland Licensing Committee meeting of 6 September, Members agreed a draft tariff for public consultation which included a 20% increase to all tariffs.
