A joint enforcement operation in Keighley has resulted in multiple taxi and private hire suspensions and a vehicle seizure, as authorities intensified efforts to improve passenger safety and compliance across the local trade.
According to West Yorkshire Police, the operation took place on 3 February 2026 and involved collaboration with Bradford Council Taxi Licensing, neighbourhood policing teams, response officers and traffic units across the Bradford district.
A total of 12 taxis were stopped and examined during the targeted checks. Of those, four vehicles were immediately suspended after officers identified serious safety concerns. One vehicle was also seized after being found to have neither a valid licence nor insurance, highlighting ongoing risks linked to illegal operation within the sector.
Enforcement activity extended beyond licensing breaches, with more than 20 traffic offences detected. These included drivers using mobile phones at the wheel, failing to wear seatbelts, operating without a valid MOT, and various vehicle defects.

Officers also engaged directly with drivers, providing guidance on legal requirements and expected standards in a bid to improve future compliance.
The operation formed part of a wider safeguarding strategy, with police confirming that proactive measures were taken to protect vulnerable passengers. Criminal offences were identified and dealt with at the scene, while intelligence gathered during the checks will be used to inform future enforcement and disruption activity.
The findings highlight the continued focus on compliance and the operational risks for drivers and operators who fall short of licensing and road safety requirements. Joint operations of this kind are increasingly being used by local authorities and police forces to address concerns around passenger safety, illegal plying for hire, and vehicle roadworthiness.
West Yorkshire Police said further operations are planned, signalling an ongoing enforcement approach aimed at raising standards and maintaining public confidence in the taxi and private hire sector across the region.
