Kent Police are ramping up efforts to tackle drink driving as part of their annual Christmas campaign. Authorities are urging partygoers to plan their journeys home responsibly, encouraging the use of pre-booked taxis or designated drivers to ensure safety on the roads.

The festive season, traditionally marked by increased social gatherings, often leads to a spike in drink-driving offences. As a result, law enforcement agencies across the UK dedicate additional resources to roadside checks and public awareness campaigns during this period.

A spokesperson for the Kent Police Roads Unit highlighted the importance of having a designated driver, describing it as a “fantastic service” that helps friends and family return home safely after a night out.

The crackdown is not just about enforcing the law but preventing the devastating consequences that drink driving can bring. With more vehicles on the road and higher levels of alcohol consumption in December, the risks of collisions involving impaired drivers significantly increase.

A Kent Police Roads Unit spokesperson said: “Out celebrating the festive season? Why not pre-book a taxi or assign a designated driver. Designated drivers provide a fantastic service by helping their friends and family get home safely at the end of a night out.”
