Key changes to London’s West End road network to go live this weekend

Updated: Oct 22, 2021

A key part of London’s West End road network is set to change this weekend in a bid to improve the flow of traffic in the area.

Changes in the direction of traffic on Berners Street and Newman Street will come into effect on Sunday 24 October.

Berners Street will switch from one-way in a southbound direction to one-way in a northbound direction, whilst Newman Street will switch from one-way in a northbound direction to one-way in a southbound direction.

According to Westminster City Council these changes are designed to improve the overall traffic flow across the network, and enable permanent improvements to the public realm, cycle facilities and pedestrian safety.

A leaflet and and prior notifications have been distributed to residents and businesses in the area, and emergency services in the lead up to the changes this weekend.

All parking spaces in the affected streets will be suspended over the weekend of the 23 October in preparation for the switch. Traffic Marshalls will also be in place on the day of the switch to manage the new traffic arrangements and facilitate emergency services access if required.
