A private hire driver licensed in Knowsley has been banned from driving after accumulating 12 points on his licence and fined £634 after being caught with tyre tread below the legal limit.

Motorists are issued 3 penalty points for each tyre found to be illegal. According to Liverpool City Council, the unnamed private hire driver already had 9 points on his licence, which meant with the additional 3 points, he was issued an automatic ban.

Using their official Twitter account @lcc_licensing, Liverpool City Council's licensing team wrote: "A Knowsley PHV driver was convicted today at Liverpool Magistrates' Court after being caught driving with insufficient tyre tread.

"Fine/costs totalling £634, given 3 penalty points on his licence which meant he totted up to 12 and was disqualified from driving for 6 months."
