Leeds robber jailed after attacking taxi driver just hours after prison release
Tremaine Jackson was sentenced at Leeds Crown Court after the incident in the early hours of 5 June 2026. He had been released from custody the previous day and had been drinking and taking drugs while celebrating his release, the court heard.
Jackson was collected by the taxi from the Hampton Hotel in Leeds city centre at 3.31am. During the journey home, he began hitting himself on the head and said he had lost his house keys. After the driver handed him £12.70 in change, Jackson began banging on the vehicle’s central console and accused the cabbie of stealing his bank card.
According to Leeds Live, Prosecutor Lea Levine told the court that Jackson pushed the driver to the side, slapped him in the face and took cash from the vehicle’s cubby box. The driver escaped from the taxi and contacted police while Jackson put the stolen money into his pockets.
Police officers subsequently found Jackson stumbling and slurring his words. He was carrying cannabis, the stolen money and a plastic tray taken from the taxi.
During a later police interview, Jackson asked whether he could meet the driver to apologise and reportedly did not want officers to play the dashcam footage because he was embarrassed.
Defence barrister Glen Parsons said Jackson had been celebrating with friends following his release from prison.
The court heard that the 21-year-old had previous convictions for burglary and robbery. Recorder Chapman sentenced him to two years in prison.
