London EV Company (LEVC) has entered the Gibraltar taxi market for the first time through a new partnership with the Gibraltar Ministry of Transport, delivering 11 zero-exhaust emission capable TX taxis to the territory.
The move represents a strategic expansion for the Coventry-based manufacturer into Gibraltar, where authorities are seeking to reduce transport emissions while maintaining service standards for residents and tourists. The arrival of the vehicles was formally marked during a press event attended by government officials and senior LEVC representatives.
The TX taxis have been supplied in the traditional ‘Raven Black’ finish associated with London’s licensed fleet, introducing one of the UK’s most recognisable transport assets into the territory. The move aligns with Gibraltar’s environmental targets and reflects a broader trend among smaller jurisdictions adopting electrified taxi solutions.
For operators, the TX’s extended-range electric capability may offer operational flexibility in a geographically compact but high-demand urban area. The model’s eCity powertrain delivers a pure electric range of up to 78 miles, supported by a range extender that increases total range to approximately 333 miles, reducing downtime associated with charging infrastructure constraints.
New fleet marks manufacturer’s first formal entry into the British Overseas Territory’s taxi market
LEVC said it has now sold more than 12,000 TX vehicles globally since the model’s launch, positioning it as a key player in purpose-built electrified taxi manufacturing. The company traces its heritage back to 1908 and remains the only manufacturer producing a fully accessible, purpose-built electric taxi at scale.
Accessibility remains a central feature of the TX platform, with the vehicle designed to accommodate a wide range of passengers, including wheelchair users. Features include an integrated wheelchair ramp, seating for up to six passengers, hearing induction systems, braille controls and high-visibility access points, supporting compliance with inclusive transport policies increasingly adopted by regulators.
From an environmental perspective, LEVC reports that its TX fleet has prevented more than 360 million kilograms of CO2 emissions globally, alongside contributing to a 59% reduction in nitrogen oxide emissions from London’s taxi fleet.
Chris Allen, LEVC Managing Director, said: “We are proud to see the TX arrive in Gibraltar, supporting the territory’s ambitions for cleaner urban mobility. The iconic black cab has long been recognised around the world for its practicality, accessibility and distinctive design, and the TX brings those same qualities together with advanced electric technology. This delivery represents an exciting milestone and we look forward to seeing the vehicles supporting drivers, residents and visitors across Gibraltar for many years to come.”
John Cortes MP, Minister for the Environment and Transport, said: “The arrival of these new LEVC TX taxis marks an important step forward in the modernisation of Gibraltar’s taxi fleet. As we continue working to improve air quality and reduce emissions, introducing zero-emission capable vehicles into everyday transport is a key part of our strategy. LEVC’s TX combines innovative technology with high standards of accessibility and passenger comfort, ensuring both residents and visitors benefit from a cleaner, more modern taxi service. We are pleased to welcome this new chapter for Gibraltar’s transport network.”
The Minister for Equality and Tourism, the Hon Christian Santos GMD MP, said: “These iconic British taxis will be one of the first, very visible expressions of Gibraltar’s identity to visitors to the Rock. Importantly, they are also fully inclusive and accessible for anyone with supported needs, ready to provide a warm Gibraltarian welcome to all.”
