Liverpool licensed private hire vehicle suspended after driver discovers cracked tyre following kerb impact

Liverpool City Council licensing officers have suspended a private hire vehicle until a damaged tyre was replaced, warning drivers to inspect their vehicles immediately after striking a kerb.
A private hire vehicle (PHV) in Liverpool was suspended from service after licensing officers discovered a significant crack in one of its tyres.
Liverpool City Council’s licensing team shared an image showing a substantial split across the tyre sidewall, raising concerns about the vehicle’s roadworthiness.
According to the council, the driver told officers he had struck a kerb several hours before the damaged tyre was identified.
The vehicle was subsequently suspended until the affected tyre was replaced. The council has not disclosed where the inspection took place or how long the vehicle remained off the road.
In a statement published on social media, LCC Licensing said: “This PHV was recently suspended until the tyre was replaced. The driver stated that he had hit a kerb a few hours earlier.”
The authority added: “A reminder to all drivers, if you hit a kerb, check your tyres immediately and seek a professional inspection if there’s any damage.”
The incident serves as a warning to taxi and private hire drivers that kerb impacts can cause tyre damage requiring immediate attention. Drivers are responsible for ensuring their vehicles remain roadworthy throughout their working shifts, with defects potentially resulting in enforcement action and lost earnings.
