Licensing Enforcement Officers from Liverpool City Council joined Merseyside Police on Friday 3 May for two separate roadside operations aimed at checking compliance among licensed taxis and work vehicles.
The first joint effort focused on licensed vehicles during the evening. Licensing Enforcement Officers carried out inspections while Merseyside Police conducted checks on drink and drug driving, as well as vehicle safety standards.
A second operation took place on the same day at Great George Place. Officers from Liverpool Licensing and Environmental Enforcement teams, alongside Merseyside Police, carried out checks on both licensed and other work vehicles.
These checks are carried out to ensure that licensed vehicles, including taxis and private hire vehicles, meet the safety and licensing standards set by the council. The inspections also help ensure drivers are properly licensed and that vehicles are roadworthy, taxed and insured.
Joint operations with police also target wider offences such as driving under the influence and operating without the correct authorisation. The goal is to protect public safety and maintain professional standards across the licensed trade in Liverpool.
A Liverpool City Council Licensing spokesperson said: “Licensing Enforcement Officers took part in a joint operation with colleagues from Merseyside Police on Friday evening. Officers were inspecting licensed vehicles and checks were also made by Merseyside Police in relation to drink and drug driving as well as vehicle safety."
In another operation on the same day, the spokesperson added: “Liverpool Licensing and Environmental Enforcement Officers conducted a joint agency roadside operation with colleagues from Merseyside Police conducting compliance checks on licensed vehicles and other work vehicles.”
