Liverpool City Council licensing officers have reported high levels of compliance following a series of enforcement patrols at the Skelhorne Street taxi rank in the city centre.
According to a statement published by Liverpool City Council Licensing, officers have continued daily patrols of the rank after receiving complaints that private hire vehicles were unlawfully using the hackney carriage rank.
The authority said: “Licensing Enforcement Officers continue to carry out daily patrols of the Skelhorne Street taxi rank following complaints regarding Private Hire Vehicles unlawfully using the rank.”
The council added that recent monitoring activity had not identified any breaches, stating: “Compliance has been high, with no issues identified during recent patrols.”
Liverpool City Council says recent enforcement activity has found no issues at a taxi rank previously linked to complaints about private hire vehicle use.
The update will be welcomed by licensed hackney carriage drivers who have previously raised concerns about rank misuse, an issue that can affect access to passengers and create tensions between different sectors of the trade. Enforcement activity at key city centre locations remains an important part of ensuring licensing rules are followed.
Skelhorne Street is one of Liverpool city centre’s busiest transport corridors, serving passengers travelling to and from nearby retail, leisure and transport hubs.
