A Liverpool-licensed private hire vehicle has been suspended after council enforcement officers discovered two illegal tyres during a routine inspection near Lime Street Station.
According to Liverpool City Council Licensing, the defects were identified during recent compliance checks carried out at the city’s main rail transport hub. The authority confirmed the vehicle was immediately suspended from operating and that further enforcement action is being pursued against the driver.
In a statement published on social media, Liverpool City Council Licensing said: “Two illegal tyres. One routine inspection. One immediate suspension. Our Enforcement Officers identified the defects during recent checks at Lime Street Station. The PHV was suspended and further action is being taken against the driver.”
Photographs released by the council appear to show tyres worn significantly below the legal tread depth requirement. Under UK law, car tyres must have a minimum tread depth of 1.6mm across the central three-quarters of the tyre and around the entire circumference.
Routine licensing checks at Liverpool Lime Street Station led to the immediate suspension of a private hire vehicle after officers identified two illegal tyres and launched further action against the driver.
Vehicles found operating with tyres below this limit can face penalties, while licensed drivers may also be subject to licensing sanctions.
Licensing authorities regularly carry out targeted compliance operations at transport hubs and city-centre locations to ensure vehicles meet safety and licensing standards.
