A London black cab driver has been praised online after refusing to accept payment from a passenger travelling to visit his critically ill grandson at Great Ormond Street Hospital.
The story emerged in a LinkedIn post by Mark Brown, who said he had travelled to London to see his grandson and took a black cab from Paddington Station across the capital to the specialist children’s hospital.
According to Brown, the driver asked what had brought him to the hospital when they arrived. After learning the reason for the visit, the driver declined to take any payment for the fare.
Brown wrote: “Without hesitation, he refused to take any payment.”
He said the driver, identified only as Moses, explained his decision by saying: “It’s one of those unspoken black cab driver rules.”
Social media post highlighting an act of kindness by a London taxi driver has attracted attention after a passenger revealed the driver refused payment for a journey to Great Ormond Street Hospital.
Brown described the gesture as “No fuss. Just genuine kindness”, adding that he repeatedly tried to pay for the journey but the driver would not accept the money.
Instead, Brown said the cab driver replied: “If we bump into each other again sometime, you can buy me a pint.”
The post has resonated with readers, highlighting the high service levels often associated with London’s black cab trade. Brown thanked the driver directly, saying: “So thank you, Moses. That meant more than you’ll ever know.”
He added that he hoped their paths would cross again one day so he could finally buy the driver the promised pint.
