London taxi drivers are being invited to contribute stories of celebrity passengers to a new charity book aimed at raising funds for Great Ormond Street Hospital.

The proposed publication, currently titled Back of My Cab, is being developed by publishing company Found, which specialises in curated storytelling projects involving content creators and high-profile contributors. The initiative is designed to capture real-life experiences from drivers who have transported well-known figures, while generating proceeds for the hospital.

According to Found, the concept originated from a conversation with a taxi driver who had carried an internationally recognised musician. The exchange prompted the idea of compiling similar experiences from across the trade, with the charity link reflecting the longstanding relationship between London’s black cab community and Great Ormond Street Hospital.

Emma Thompson, head of marketing at Found, said the project is intended to draw on the breadth of experiences within the taxi industry. She noted that many drivers have encountered high-profile passengers and that there is a strong willingness among the trade to support charitable causes linked to children’s healthcare.

Thompson said: “We know there are lots of big names which are extremely supportive of cabbies and that many drivers have had stars in their cars. We hope that people will be happy to share their stories so we can really support Great Ormond Street Hospital, which we know already has a very strong relationship with black cab drivers.”

The publisher has also sought to address concerns around confidentiality, a key consideration for drivers who regularly transport high-profile individuals. Thompson confirmed that any stories submitted would be cleared with the relevant celebrity representatives before publication to ensure no private conversations are disclosed without approval.

“We will be clearing all the stories with the celebrities’ agents so we don’t want anyone to be concerned that we are publicising private conversations,” she said.

The book is expected to compile a range of anecdotes reflecting the diversity of encounters within the trade, from brief interactions to more memorable journeys. Found believes the format will appeal to both industry insiders and a broader readership, while providing a fundraising stream for the hospital.
