A new London radio station focused on sport and music has officially launched, with its founders directly targeting black cab drivers and taxi motorists as part of its core daytime audience.
Track Radio is now broadcasting on London DAB radio and online platforms, offering weekday programming between 7am and 7pm built around sports discussion, interviews, news updates and music playlists aimed at commuters and drivers on the move.
Broadcasting from central London studios, the station describes itself as the UK’s only dedicated sports and music radio service. The launch comes as competition for in-car listening continues to intensify between traditional radio broadcasters, podcasts and streaming services.
The station’s presenter line-up includes familiar names from UK sports broadcasting, including Mark Pougatch, Vassos Alexander, Charlotte Daly, Sanny Rudravajhala and Sonja McLaughlan.

The broadcaster is also drawing on the experience of veteran radio presenter John Inverdale, who spent 25 years at BBC Radio 5 Live and is helping shape the station’s editorial direction and on-air style.
Track Radio says it wants to attract London’s black cab drivers and taxi motorists, long regarded as some of the capital’s most engaged radio listeners and outspoken sports fans. The station is positioning itself as an alternative to rolling news coverage and confrontational phone-in formats, instead focusing on sport-led discussion and lighter entertainment throughout the working day.
Programming combines sports debate, interviews, listener interaction, hourly news bulletins and music selected to appeal to daytime listeners spending long hours behind the wheel. Taxi and private hire drivers remain one of commercial radio’s most consistent live audiences, with many spending full shifts listening to speech and music stations while working across the capital.
The company behind the station, Track Record Corporation, is led by Iain Macintosh, the former chief executive of podcast production business Muddy Knees Media, which was acquired by The Athletic in 2020.
Breakfast programming is fronted by Alexander alongside Daily Mail sports reporter Daly, while Pougatch leads the station’s Drive Time output aimed at listeners travelling home or finishing shifts later in the day.
John Inverdale said: “Track Radio is a fresh, vibrant new station. Taxi drivers are some of the great characters and conversationalists of London, and so many of them are hugely passionate about sport and music. We’re really excited to bring those worlds together and hopefully become part of the soundtrack to their day.”
Mark Pougatch said: “London cabbies know sport better than most people and they’ve always been at the heart of the city’s sporting conversations. We believe Track Radio can become part of their daily listening, whether they’re behind the wheel or at home.
“With the World Cup coming up, there’s going to be a huge appetite for great sports conversation and analysis, and we want taxi drivers right at the centre of that with us.”
