A London private hire vehicle has been seized by police after officers found the driver to have no insurance and no licence to work as a minicab driver.

Met Police officers stopped the Toyota Prius in the Camden area of the capital today. The vehicle was originally pulled over for driving at speed by the Met’s ‘Cabsunit’ team.

Upon speaking with the driver it was then noted that they were not a private hire driver or insured to drive the vehicle.

According to sources the driver was reported for having no insurance and the vehicle was seized.

Metropolitan Police Roads and Transport Command said: “This PHV was seen driving in Camden at speed by officers from #cabsunit. When stopped it was established that the driver was NOT a private hire driver and the vehicle was uninsured.

“Vehicle seized, driver reported for no insurance.”
