Three occupants of a London private hire marked car have been issued Fixed Penalty Notices (FPN’s) for breaking COVID-19 lockdown rules by travelling to Southend to view the sea.
In addition to the FPN’s, officers from Essex Police confirmed that the vehicle, a Toyota Prius, was seized for having no insurance.

Using their official Facebook account to highlight the incident, Essex Police - Southend District said: “Last night the 3 occupants of this vehicle decided to take a late night drive to Southend to ‘see the sea’.
”Vehicle stopped, COVID-19 FPN’s issued to all occupants and the vehicle seized for no insurance. Fatal 5. We are looking out for you.”
In the image provided by the force, a London private hire licence roundel can be seen in the top left corner of the vehicle’s windscreen. All private hire vehicles licensed by Transport for London (TfL) must display such a roundel.
Officers have not confirmed if any of the occupants were licensed private hire drivers.
