Families were given a memorable day out in August as Gett, London’s black cab app, joined forces with licensed taxi drivers to deliver sightseeing tours of the capital’s landmarks while raising money for charity.
The initiative generated £1,000 for The Joshua Hayday Helping Hand Trust and Whizz Kidz. Both organisations provide vital support, with the former assisting families of children with life-limiting conditions and the latter helping young people with disabilities access mobility equipment and opportunities.
Passengers enjoyed tours taking in Big Ben, Buckingham Palace, the London Eye and other landmarks. Drivers shared their knowledge of the city and their experiences as part of the day, giving families both a comfortable journey and expert commentary along the way.
The tours also highlighted the accessibility advantages of black taxis, which are designed to accommodate wheelchairs and prams. Combined with the specialist knowledge of drivers trained through The Knowledge, the experience showed why London’s taxis remain a distinctive part of the city’s transport offer.
The partnership demonstrated how taxi drivers can combine their expertise with community fundraising, providing both an enjoyable experience and meaningful support for charitable work.
