London Taxi PR takes Knowledge message to hundreds of jobseekers as major recruitment push gathers pace

London Taxi PR (LTPR) expanded its recruitment campaign during July by attending two employment fairs aimed at encouraging more people to begin training for the Knowledge of London and pursue a career as a licensed London taxi driver.
The organisation, which promotes the interests of London’s licensed taxi trade, exhibited at jobs fairs in Dagenham and Rainham and south-east London within a week of each other as part of its ongoing efforts to attract new entrants into the profession at a time when the industry continues to seek fresh recruits.
The first event took place on 10 July at UCL Pearl in Dagenham following an invitation from Dagenham and Rainham MP Margaret Mullane. The employment fair marked the second consecutive year that London Taxi PR had attended the event.
Andy Scott, London Taxi PR’s PR and Communications spokesperson, said the event generated strong interest from attendees while also providing an opportunity to discuss wider industry issues with the local MP.
Scott said: “Not only was this every well-attended, with a high level of engagement and interest, but I was also able to speak with Margaret Mullane MP afterwards and convey industry concerns and also some good news on the Knowledge Academy front for her constituents.”
During the discussions, Scott said concerns surrounding LEVC and issues raised by drivers, fleet owners and garages were raised with the MP. He added: “We talked on issues with regards to LEVC, and the concerns raised by drivers, fleet owners and garages over a variety of topics, which Margaret said she would kindly write to them on our behalf to seek some clarity and hopefully get reassurance for the profession going forward.
“This was much appreciated, especially as Margaret has a number of constituents within her region who are London Taxi drivers and therefore shared our concerns about this.”
London Taxi PR also confirmed that a new Knowledge Academy is expected to open in Rainham this September under The Taxi Academy.
The site will become the organisation’s third training location and is intended to improve access to Knowledge training for prospective drivers in east London and Essex.
The second recruitment event followed on 16 July at Millwall FC Community Trust’s Employability and Information, Advice and Guidance Hub. The ‘Kick Into Employment’ event was delivered alongside the Department for Work and Pensions and continued an established partnership between London Taxi PR and the Community Trust.
Millwall Community Trust’s Employability and IAG Hub received the Community Project of the Year award at this year’s London Football Awards, recognising its work supporting people into employment across the local area.
Reflecting on both events, Scott said: “Both of these employment events were well-organised and well-attended, and both resulted from repeat invitations with people I have had the privilege to work with before. Its great that we, London Taxi PR, are able to get out and about to promote the profession and engage with potential Knowledge students within the Essex and South-East London areas. Hopefully that will encourage more new recruits into the profession and help boost Knowledge Academy numbers, especially with new Academies opening which is great to hear.”
The recruitment campaign comes as sections of the London taxi industry continue efforts to increase the number of Knowledge students entering training. Industry groups have argued that improving awareness of the profession and making Knowledge training more accessible will be important in supporting the long-term sustainability of the capital’s licensed taxi fleet.
