A spokesperson for the police confirmed that there were passengers on board at the time of recovery.

Taking to Twitter to highlight the incident, a spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police Service Roads and Transport Team said: "LOS (Lost or stolen) private hire vehicle recovered by NorthRPT after TDQTeam10 officers spotted it driving in Hackney this afternoon carrying passengers."

Twitter users took to the post to have their say, with one person explaining what may have been the situation in regards to the vehicle being reported lost or stolen: "Veh rent not paid, requested return, failed to do so..... Company reports vehicle stolen. PHV driver carries on working.

"Oh & it's Lost or Stolen hence LOS because people do actually lose their cars on occasions."
