Taxi and private hire operators across the UK are being encouraged to put their businesses at the heart of their communities as Love Local Taxi & Private Hire Week gets underway today.
Running from 6 to 12 July, the initiative, organised by iCabbi and supported by CMAC Group and minicabit, aims to raise public awareness of the vital contribution licensed taxi and private hire services make every day. The campaign encourages fleets to celebrate the work they do beyond simply transporting passengers, highlighting their role in supporting local economies, charities, businesses and vulnerable members of the community.
According to iCabbi, operators are being invited to organise community events throughout the week, ranging from charity fundraisers and summer fairs to driver recruitment days and street parties. Fleets can register their events and receive marketing materials, branding assets, video content and public relations support to help promote their activities locally.
Organisers say the campaign is designed to remind passengers that local taxi and private hire firms continue to provide an essential transport service in towns and cities across Britain. Beyond everyday journeys, licensed operators regularly transport people to hospitals, schools, workplaces, airports and night-time venues, while also supporting those who rely on accessible and dependable transport options.
The initiative also provides an opportunity for operators to promote the growing capabilities of local booking apps. Through iCabbi’s nationwide app networking, participating fleets can offer customers the ability to book licensed taxis in other parts of the UK using their existing local operator’s app, helping independent firms compete more effectively while retaining customer loyalty.
Former Manchester United defender Wes Brown has backed this year’s campaign, describing local taxi and private hire fleets as businesses that have supported communities for well over a century. In promotional material released ahead of the week, Brown encouraged passengers to “Think Local, Think Taxi First” when booking their next journey.
Love Local Taxi & Private Hire Week returns after its inaugural campaign, with organisers hoping even more operators will take part during 2026.
Alongside community engagement, the campaign is intended to reinforce the industry’s wider economic and social contribution at a time when licensed operators continue to compete in an increasingly technology-driven transport market.
