A man was picked up and fined by police officers for walking alongside the busy M65 motorway last night after running out of money for a taxi home.

Officers from Lancashire Police found the man near the Burnley section of the M65. The man told officers that he had spent all his money on alcohol during a night out and had no money for the taxi back.

The man was removed from the motorway and fined £50.

A spokesperson from Lancashire Road Police unit, wrote: “A little-known fact is that beer tokens also work as taxi tokens.

“One gent found out the hard way after spending all his money and trying to walk home along the M65 from Burnley.

He was removed from the motorway by #HO54 and issued a £50 fixed penalty. #T1TacOps#CostlyMistake”
