Man in custody after taxi driver assaulted and robbed of his vehicle in Burnley


A man is in police custody after a taxi driver in Burnley was assaulted and robbed of his vehicle.


Police officers received several calls from the public complaining about the vehicle being driven dangerously around the town centre.

A Burnley and Padiham Police spokesperson said: "Several calls received this morning in relation to dangerous driving by a car from Delta Taxis around the town centre and Every St area.


"We can confirm the car at the time was stolen and there is one male currently in custody.


"Delta taxis were not involved in the incident and are assisting us with enquiries."

Delta Taxis shared an edited version of the incident on social media. A spokesperson said: "Witnesses are being sought in relation to a violent attack on one of our drivers this morning.


"Did you witness anything near the football ground or later on in the Coal Clough area of town involving this Silver Toyota Prius which had been stolen from the driver."
