MANCHESTER POLICE STOP: Private hire driver reported after found to be non-compliant

In a recent enforcement action, officers from the Greater Manchester Police (GMP) Commercial Vehicle Unit, as part of Operation Avro, conducted a routine stop on Manchester Road, Bury, that led to the discovery of a private hire driver flouting licensing regulations.


The GMP Traffic Unit confirmed the incident, stating that upon inspection, the driver was found not adhering to the conditions of his Private Hire licence. The matter has been referred to taxi licensing authorities for further action.

The specific details surrounding the nature of the non-compliance were not made available to the public.


The enforcement operation highlights the ongoing checks the GMP and other local authorities conduct to maintain safety and compliance within the private hire and taxi industry.

A Greater Manchester Police (GMP) Traffic Unit spokesperson said: “Officers from GMP Commercial Vehicle Unit out supporting Operation Avro in Bury.


“Vehicle stopped on Manchester Road, the driver was found not to be complying with his Private Hire licence.


“Reported to taxi licensing.”
