Mayfair restaurant backs London cabbies with free fish and chips after Oxford Street traffic ban

The Mayfair Chippy restaurant is offering black cab passengers a weekday meal deal and cab drivers free fish and chips on Tuesdays in November, citing the loss of cab access to part of Oxford Street.
The Mayfair Chippy said black cab drivers helped build its business after it opened in 2015, bringing passengers to the restaurant and stopping between fares. It is running the offers as almost a kilometre of Oxford Street, between Orchard Street and Great Portland Street, becomes traffic-free from 26 October.
From Monday to Friday until 31 December, diners arriving by black cab can show a same-day receipt to receive buy one, get one free on the restaurant’s Mayfair Classic fish and chips. The minimum fare, including tip, is £20.
The offer applies to dine-in visits at the Mayfair and Knightsbridge restaurants. One free Mayfair Classic is available for every two guests, for parties of up to four. Private hire journeys do not qualify, and the offer cannot be combined with other promotions.
Taxi drivers can claim free takeaway fish and chips at the Mayfair restaurant every Tuesday in November. They must show a valid taxi driver’s badge or licence, and the offer is limited to the first 50 drivers each week.
The restaurant is also promoting a cab-booking service through Jump QR codes at tables. Customers can scan a code to book a black cab or ask staff to arrange one. The restaurant says there is no sign-up and customers pay when the cab arrives.
The driver offer runs on 3, 10, 17 and 24 November, all day and for takeaway only. Check the website for full terms and conditions.
