Met Police and Westminster enforcement officers handed four pedicab operators prosecution papers for playing amplified music too loud after 9pm.
In partnership with the Metropolitan Police, the Council conducts monthly operations around Oxford Street, Covent Garden, Soho and the West End to crackdown on nuisance pedicab operators.
The latest operation on Saturday 11 March builds on last year’s successful pedicab enforcement.
Despite currently having limited powers to enforce, in 2022 they took details from 68 operators for playing overly loud music after 9pm. Pedicab riders were fined more than £21,000 for excessive noise after the 9pm threshold with more court dates pending this year. Additionally, 27 riders have been served with written warnings for their behaviour.
A Met Soho Police spokesperson said via social media: “A great joint pedicab operation with City of Westminster tackling pedicabs in the area on Saturday 11 March.
“4 riders were found playing amplified music past 21:00. Papers will be submitted for prosecution. This is a notable reduction of the issue.”
