A private hire vehicle with THREE illegally worn tyres lost control and crashed on the M61 this morning.

Police shared a picture of the minicab showing heavy damage to the front of the vehicle.

According to officers the car ‘lost control’ on the outskirts of Manchester at the M61 junction in Swinton.

The vehicle was found to have three tyres below the minimum 1.6mm legal tread.

The driver could now face fines up to £2,500 per illegal tyre and three penalty points for each worn tyre too.

The driver has been reported to taxi licensing.

A Greater Manchester Traffic Police spokesperson said via social media: “The driver of this private hire vehicle lost control at the start of the M61 Motorway at Swinton.

“Three tyres were below the 1.6mm legal limit, so he was reported for summons by ME28 from North West Motorway Police.

“The driver will also be reported to Taxi Licencing.”
