A day of roadside enforcement checks by the Driver & Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) and Gwent Police Monmouthshire Team, found a locally licensed taxi to have tyres that were not road safe.

The taxi had one tyre which had tread below the legal limit, as well as having one which was dangerously under-inflated.

Using their official Twitter account @DVSAEnforcement, a spokesperson said: "Partnership working with GP Monmouthshire.

"Tyre and brake defects being the most common.

"A taxi had a tyre below the legal limit and another was under inflated.

"A brake cable was disconnected on the trailer towed by the van.

"Numerous dangerous vehicles removed from the road."
