A motorist has been slammed by the Driver & Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) after they were found to be driving a car with its suspension held together with wooden blocks and cable ties.

Highlighting the astonishing find on their official Facebook page, the DVSA said: "Wood you believe it. This car's suspension was held together with wooden blocks and cable ties when it arrived at the MOT garage.

"This is not the way to repair your car. You're responsible for making sure your vehicle is always safe to drive."

Social media users may have been left shocked by the image of the DIY bodge job, but many couldn't help but add a little humour to the popular feed, with one saying: "Absolute cowboys! If you're using cable ties, for goodness sake cut the ends off."

Another wrote: "What kind of lunatic doesn't cut the ends of cable ties?"

Whilst another guy added: "Only 2 faults with this. 1) Thicker cable ties are advised. 2) Notches should be cut within the wood to countersunk the ties so they don't slip down and allow the wood to become lose. Other than that, perfect job."

But not everyone had humorous praise for the DIY motorist, with one man saying: "Stuff like this is an absolute embarrassment that gives us DIYers who repair our cars properly a bad name."
