Old Oak Common station, set to become a major transport hub in London, is central to the UK’s High Speed 2 (HS2) rail network and could provide cabbies with a wealth of new passengers and work.

Expected to handle an estimated 250,000 passengers daily, the station will link high-speed and conventional rail services, making it a pivotal interchange. With six underground HS2 platforms and connections to the Elizabeth Line and other rail services, the station aims to transform travel and support significant regeneration in the surrounding west London area.

Taxis will play a crucial role in ensuring the hub’s accessibility. A dedicated taxi rank is integral to the transport interchange located on the western side of the station. The facility will cater to pick-ups and drop-offs, providing that seamless connection for passengers moving between rail services and local destinations. The station will also feature a designated “kiss and ride” area for private vehicles, ensuring smooth operations for those accessing the station by car.

The taxi rank and drop-off points will be accessible via Old Oak Common Lane, connecting directly to the newly developed station square. This square, a key part of the public realm design, will also accommodate buses and cycle parking, highlighting the station’s focus on sustainable and integrated transport options. With no public car parking planned, the station’s emphasis on public transport, cycling, and pedestrian access is clear.

This development is part of the wider Old Oak and Park Royal regeneration project, one of the largest in the UK. Beyond its transport function, Old Oak Common is poised to drive growth in the local area, with plans for new public spaces, retail opportunities, and commercial development. It is designed to be a gateway not just to the rail network but also to a revitalised local community.
