Nottinghamshire taxi driver jailed after his own dashcam captures sexual assault on passenger
A Nottingham taxi driver has been jailed for sexually assaulting a female passenger, with the entire incident captured on his own dashcam.
Imran Yaseen, 40, targeted the woman on the night of 14 February 2024 after picking her up in Nottingham City Centre. The victim, in her thirties, was sitting in the front passenger seat when Yaseen began making inappropriate comments.
He escalated the situation by touching her leg before stopping near Clifton, where he carried out a serious sexual assault.
Nottinghamshire Police were informed, and Yaseen was swiftly identified by the taxi firm. Officers arrested him the following day, seizing his vehicle and dashcam. The device, which was installed for safety purposes, captured both video and audio of the assault.
Faced with undeniable evidence, Yaseen pleaded guilty to three counts of sexual assault.
On 14 November, Nottingham Crown Court sentenced him to 16 months in prison. He was also placed on the sex offenders' register for ten years and issued a sexual harm prevention notice, barring him from driving taxis upon his release.
Police praised the swift actions of the taxi company and highlighted the critical role of dashcam technology in securing Yaseen's conviction.
PC Tom Gregory, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “This was an opportunist assault on a vulnerable female passenger and I am pleased Yaseen has now been jailed.
“The victim in this case put her trust in him to take her home safely and he utterly abused that trust by subjecting her to a prolonged sexual assault.
“Thanks to the evidence contained on his own dashcam camera, he had little option but to plead guilty and will now spend a significant amount of time in time in prison.
“When he is released, he will also be banned from driving taxis and having contact with other female passengers.”
