ON THE RISE: Liverpool publishes statutory notice for taxi and private hire vehicle fee increases

Liverpool City Council has published a statutory notice setting out proposed increases to several hackney carriage and private hire licence fees. The notice, dated 1 October, opens a 28-day period for objections, which must reach the council by 29 October 2026.
The proposed fee changes follow approval by the council’s General Purposes Licensing Committee. Publication of the Section 70 notice is a further procedural stage for the vehicle and operator fees, allowing licence holders and other interested parties to submit objections before the council proceeds.
A one-year hackney carriage vehicle renewal would rise from £180 to £190. The one-year private hire vehicle renewal would also increase from £180 to £190.
A new one-year private hire vehicle licence is proposed to rise from £185 to £200. The fee for a five-year private hire operator licence would increase from £800 to £830.
The proposed refund for vehicle replacements would increase from £15 to £16 for each complete calendar month. Objections must be made in writing and received by Liverpool City Council by 29 October. They can be sent to the council’s Licensing and Public Protection Services or emailed, as set out in the notice.
