Oxford City Council launches public consultation on taxi licensing cap
Oxford City Council has opened a consultation on its policy of controlling the number of Hackney Carriage Vehicle licences in the city.
The council currently issues 107 licences for taxis that can be flagged down on the street or picked up from designated ranks.
The review is a statutory obligation, and the council is seeking feedback on whether the current system meets the needs of residents and visitors. The consultation, running from 4 September to 27 November 2024, invites comments on the availability of taxis in Oxford and the level of choice offered to passengers.
Oxford’s residents, businesses, and tourists are encouraged to share their views, which will help shape future decisions on taxi provision in the city.
Councillor Louise Upton, Cabinet Member for Planning, said: “Black cabs offer people flexibility and ease of movement around the city, so we want to make sure our current policy works for everyone. Please do take the time to submit feedback.”
